Layar

Your kopitiam menu board, updated from your phone.

Stop reprinting menus and walking a pendrive to the TV. Your menu, promo and hours live on one dashboard. Change once, the screen updates itself.

Free for one screen, paid plans from RM15 a month

No credit card, no contract. Software only, so there is no installation fee.

Lunch promo starts at 12, not when you remember

Breakfast menu until 11:30, set lunch after that, teatime promo at 3. It switches by itself.

Prices changed again

Edit the poster once from your phone or laptop. Every screen in the shop shows the new price within a minute.

The TV is showing nothing again

Layar keeps playing even when Wi-Fi drops. Email tells you if a screen goes offline, WhatsApp from RM15.

Your best seller is invisible from the door

Rotate two to four slides instead of one static menu. Your signature drink, the add-on nobody knows about, and today's promo each get their own moment while the customer is still queueing.

Only you know how to change it

Anyone with the login changes a price from their own phone. No laptop, no design software.

A kopitiam day, scheduled once

Build these four playlists once. The board runs itself after that, including the days you are not in the shop.

TimeWhat the screen showsWhy
7:00am to 11:30amBreakfast set, kopi and roti prices, two photosThe morning crowd orders fast and repeats. Show the sets, not the whole menu.
11:30am to 3:00pmSet lunch with the price beside each photoYour highest-margin block. It starts at 11:30 whether or not anyone remembers.
3:00pm to 6:00pmTeatime promo, one item, one priceQuiet hours. One offer beats a full menu nobody is reading.
6:00pm to closeDinner or takeaway menu, plus tomorrow's specialThe evening customer wants a different thing from the 8am customer.

A weekend-only bundle works the same way, set once by day of the week. Ramadan hours and one-off holidays are not date-based yet, so you change those on the day. A day like this needs the RM29 plan. RM15 schedules the screen on and off, not the playlists, and the free plan does not schedule.

Two routes, side by side: a one-time hardware package from a supplier, or software on the TV you already own.

Questions

Do I need a special TV for my cafe?

No. Any TV with an HDMI port works, old or new, because Layar runs on a small player plugged into that port rather than on the TV itself. If the screen faces a bright window, choose a panel with 300+ nits so the menu stays readable.

Do I have to buy a player box?

Yes, one small box per TV, unless there is already a Windows PC behind the screen. An Android TV box costs about RM150 to RM400 once. A smart TV's own apps cannot run Layar, and the box is also what brings the menu straight back after a power cut and switches it on and off on a schedule.

Can I use my Canva menu designs?

Yes. Import designs from Canva directly into Layar, arrange them into a playlist, and publish to your TV.

What happens when the shop Wi-Fi drops?

The menu keeps playing. Layar downloads your content to the player and plays it from local storage, so an outage means you cannot push a change until the line is back, not that the screen goes blank during your lunch rush.

How long does it take to set up?

An afternoon, and most of that is mounting the TV. Plug in the player, install the app, enter the pairing code shown on screen, upload your menu, and it is live.

Who updates the menu when I am not in the shop?

Anyone with the login, from their phone. Free and RM15 have one login, so that means sharing it; separate staff logins start on RM29. Decide on day one who owns the screen, and have them change a price once while you watch.

How much does it cost for one cafe?

The first screen is free forever. One paid screen is RM15 a month. More than one is RM29 each, including the first, so two screens is RM58. Founding rates are locked for 12 months.
