Queue System in Malaysia: Ticket Machine, Phone or TV

Guide · 6 min read · 2026-10-26

Three ways to run a queue system in a Malaysian clinic, cafe or service counter, what each one costs in RM, and how customers can take a number on their own phone.

A queue system usually starts with a quote for a ticket machine, a printer and an LED number display. For a small clinic, cafe or service counter, that is often more than the counter needs.

Direct answer: a queue system needs a number for each customer, a screen that shows who is being served, and a way for staff to call the next one.

The ticket can now come from the customer's own phone. With Layar Queue, customers scan a QR code on your TV, tap to take the next number, and watch the queue on their phone. The screen is the TV you already have. It plays on a screen from Solo, RM19 a month for one screen.

How taking a number on the phone works

  1. The customer walks in and sees the TV. With the queue on the TV is a QR code.
  2. They scan it and take a number. Their phone shows their number, how many people are ahead, and who is being served now.
  3. They sit down or step out. The phone shows a rough wait, for example about 10 minutes, worked out from how fast the counter is moving.
  4. Staff tap Next on their own phone. The TV moves in a few seconds. Staff need no Layar login.
  5. The customer's phone buzzes and shows a message when it is their turn. It also shows the numbers called just before, so nobody misses their turn by looking away.

No app to install. The customer page opens in the phone's browser, in English or Bahasa Melayu, with your shop name, logo and colour.

Some customers will not scan a QR, and that is fine. You can keep handing out paper numbers beside it, or turn phone numbers off in the queue's Settings.

What you need

  • A TV. The one on your wall works, landscape or portrait.
  • A player device. An Android box or a Windows mini PC behind the TV. Our player comparison has the RM costs.
  • Internet at the counter. The number on the TV and on customers' phones moves over the internet.
  • A phone for each counter. Any phone with a browser.

The full setup, step by step, is in our guide to a queue number on a TV. In Bahasa Melayu: sistem nombor giliran di TV.

Plans are RM19 a month flat on Solo, RM29 per screen a month on Starter, and RM59 per screen a month on Pro. Every feature and its plan is on the queue features page.

What it does not do

  • No printed tickets. If every walk in must leave with paper, buy a ticket machine.
  • No link to clinic software or a POS. Staff move the number from their phone.
  • No names on screen. The TV shows numbers only, which suits a clinic waiting room.
  • The wait time is a guide. It follows how fast the counter has been moving.

Common questions

Can a queue system work without a ticket machine?

Yes. Customers scan the QR on your TV and take the next number on their phone. Paper numbers still work beside it for anyone without a phone.

How much does a queue system cost in Malaysia?

For a ticket machine and LED display, ask the seller for a quote. With Layar Queue on a TV you already own, it is RM19 a month on Solo for one screen, plus a player device if your TV does not have one.

Do customers need to download an app?

No. The QR opens a page in their phone's browser.

Is it good for a clinic?

Yes. One TV can show two to eight rooms on Starter, and the screen shows numbers only, never patient names. The clinic page has layouts.
