Digital Signage Price in Malaysia: What It Actually Costs, in RM

Pricing · 8 min read · 2026-06-13

Screens, media players, software, installation. The quotes vary wildly and most of them bundle things you do not need. Here is what Malaysian business owners actually pay, line by line, with a realistic total for one screen.

The first question most Malaysian business owners ask me is: "Berapa eh, bro?"

Fair question, and a hard one to answer from the quotes going around. Ask three suppliers what a digital signage price looks like and you will get three numbers that are not measuring the same thing: one includes the TV, one includes three years of software, one is per screen per month and looks cheap until you count your screens.

Direct answer: if you already own a TV, a working single-screen setup in Malaysia costs roughly RM1,200 one time, or as little as RM150 to RM400 if you supply your own Android box and mount it yourself.

Software runs from free to about RM29 to RM55 per screen per month (RM15 flat for a single screen). If you also need to buy the screen, add roughly RM900 to RM1,500. There is no setup fee and no multi-year contract required for one shop screen.

The Four Costs, at a Glance

What you are paying for Typical Malaysian price Can you skip it?
The screen RM0 if you own a TV, RM900 to RM1,500 new Yes, if there is a TV in the shop already
The player RM150 to RM400 Android box, or RM999 for a Windows player on an annual plan, or RM59 a month rented Rarely. This is the part that makes it run unattended
The software RM0 to RM55 per screen per month No, but it can genuinely be free for one screen
Installation RM150 to RM300 per screen Yes, if you are comfortable mounting a TV bracket

The Screen

If you already have a TV, you are halfway there. A decent 43-inch commercial display from Samsung or LG runs RM 800 to RM 1,500 depending on whether you want it for portrait or landscape use.

Consumer TVs work fine for most retail and F&B setups. Just make sure it has an HDMI port and decent brightness (at least 300 nits if it faces a window).

Most business owners I talk to already have a TV collecting dust somewhere. Use that first.

The Media Player

This is the box that actually runs your content, and it is the line where quotes differ most. Three routes, all of them legitimate.

An Android box, roughly RM150 to RM400. The cheapest way in, and it is what most single-screen shops end up running. The thing to watch is not the price but the model: very cheap no-name sticks vary a lot in whether they restart cleanly after a power cut, which is the one behaviour a shop screen actually needs. Buy a known model, or buy it from whoever is supporting your setup so there is someone to ask.

A Windows player, RM999 on an annual plan, or RM59 a month rented with warranty and swap included. If yours dies we send a replacement, which is the real reason to rent rather than buy: signage that is live in a shop needs to be back up by morning, not next week.

A refurbished mini PC, about RM500 to RM700 if you are building it yourself. Handles signage without trouble and gives you a normal machine you can log into.

If you are weighing these against each other, Android box vs mini PC vs smart TV goes through which one suits which shop.

The Software

This is where the hidden costs live, and the trap is the shape of the pricing more than the number. Signage software is almost always billed per screen per month, so a rate that looks small on one screen multiplies quietly.

Whatever you are quoted, multiply it by the number of screens you realistically expect to have in a year before you compare it against anything else.

Layar starts free. 1 screen, no time limit. Paid plans start at RM15 a month, flat for one screen, then RM29 per screen. If you are running a small business with 1 to 3 screens, the software cost is not the thing to worry about. Layar's digital signage software runs on both Windows and Android players, and if you are still weighing options, our guide to digital signage software in Malaysia covers what to check before you buy.

Installation

Wall mounting and cable management is typically RM 150 to RM 300 per screen if you hire someone. In Klang Valley, expect closer to RM 250 for a clean install with cable concealment. Outside KL, prices vary but are generally lower.

Some business owners do it themselves. It is not complicated if you are comfortable with basic wall mounting. Most of our customers who rent our player package include installation when they pick it up.

What One Screen Actually Totals

Two realistic single-screen setups, assuming the shop already has a TV, which most do.

Cheapest that works Done properly
ScreenRM0, your TVRM0, your TV
PlayerRM150, Android boxRM999, Windows player
InstallationRM0, you mount itRM200
One timeRM150RM1,199
MonthlyRM0 to RM15RM15 to RM29

If you also need to buy the screen, add roughly RM900 for a 43 inch, which puts a full from-nothing setup at about RM2,099 one time.

The left-hand column is not a trick. One screen on our free plan, an Android box you buy yourself, and a bracket you put up on a Saturday is a genuinely working menu board for the price of the box.

The watermark and a 10 second Layar slide in the rotation are the trade, and you can remove both later for RM15 without redoing anything.

What You Can Skip

You do not need a commercial-grade display for most Malaysian retail environments unless the screen faces direct sunlight. You do not need a dedicated server or complicated network setup. And you do not need an enterprise signage platform priced for a national chain when you are running two screens at a kopitiam.

Start simple. Add complexity when the business actually needs it.

Common Questions About Price

How much does digital signage cost per month in Malaysia?

For the software, RM0 to RM55 per screen per month. One screen is free forever, with a small watermark and a 10 second Layar slide on playback.

RM15 removes both marks and adds screen on and off times plus offline WhatsApp alerts, RM29 adds boards that change by time of day, split-screen, Canvas and prayer time widgets for up to 10 screens, and RM55 covers unlimited screens with analytics and proof of play.

Full plan details are on the pricing page, in ringgit rather than converted from dollars. Hardware is separate and mostly a one-time cost.

What is the cheapest way to get a digital signage screen running?

Use the TV you already own, buy an Android box for around RM150, mount it yourself, and run one screen on a free plan. That is roughly RM150 all in. It is a real setup, not a demo, and it is what we would tell you to do first before spending anything larger.

Why are supplier quotes so different from each other?

Because they are usually not quoting the same thing. Some bundle the TV, some bundle several years of software into the headline number, and some quote per screen per month, which looks small until you multiply it.

Ask every quote to separate four lines: screen, player, software per screen per month, and installation. The differences usually disappear once they are side by side. Our guide to choosing a supplier in Malaysia lists the questions that separate them.

Is there a digital signage option with no monthly fee at all?

Yes, and sometimes it is the right call. A free tier costs nothing monthly, and self-hosted open source has no licence fee if you have someone technical to run the server. Both have real trade-offs, which we go through in digital signage without a subscription.

Do I need a commercial display, or will a normal TV do?

For most Malaysian shops a normal TV is fine. Buy commercial only if the screen faces direct sun or runs close to around the clock. The full comparison is in signage display vs normal TV.

If you run a cafe or kopitiam specifically, the cafe signage page has the prices laid out beside a worked example of a day scheduled from breakfast to close.
